The basement housed the notorious book incinerator, which dumped piles of ash into the lower lagoon. There was a conveint chute outside of the building where people could deposit unwanted books, which would drop the book onto a conveyor belt to the oven chamber.

Bookworm is relieved to see the temptation for book-burning removed.
Her typist, however, is quite saddened. It was a beautiful building!
I’ll miss that familar part of the skyline. I expect I’ll continue stearing around the space it occupied for a few days just out of habit.
I remember the anti book-burning raid we went on when it was new. Sky Melnik was with us but I don’t recall who else. I think the post about it was on the old Ning site.
