It is my sad duty to announce that someone using the name Chris Mammoth has got a hold of my 1851 Colt Navy model and is selling it under his banner at the SL Marketplace. The model he is using is a second generation specimen and is nearly two years out of date, but the parts are mostly the same. He didn’t even change the textures. All of his Colt pistols are based off of my parts from that pistol. This was one of my very first guns in SL, in fact, I think it is my first. Miss Jed was one of the first to wield my Navy nearly three years ago.
If you see any of his guns for sale, do not buy them, they don’t belong to him. I’m reviewing my options now and will need to deal with this.
Here’s his Navy

You can see that the textures are different, but its my gun. All of the sculpted parts are mine.
Have you ARed him yet? It’s very important to report these things to LL. They CAN help resolve these issues.
For that matter, do you know how he managed to rip your sculpts? That’s pretty worrisome.
DMCA forms tend to be more effective because by law Linden Labs has to act on them.
copybotted maybe?
sorry to hear you’ve been ripped off, I’d say DMCA form, like Telsa said
They look identical in every way, but texture wise, Jasper, yours is far more detailed. Sorry to hear you were ripped off man.
Thanks, I’m looking into DMCA now. He used some of my textures, but dumped the rest. He also stole an older version of my Webley MkI, which he’s adjusted and modified into an ugly S&W Schofield. Of course, all of his guns which aren’t mine, or which weren’t made with parts from mine, are junk.
What’s especially maddening is that he is selling them for what he paid, which was L$400. But I raised my prices a few months ago, so not only is he selling my work under his name, he’s also undercutting me with my own product!
Jasper, you may want to check with Dr. O. He had something like this happen to him a while back. Someone was selling a structure identical to his. I don’t recall how it was resolved.
Well, it wasn’t identical in my case..my copycat just copied the design (poorly). Basically, I and a few others just threatened him until he stopped selling it. (not that we really had a case, but it was bad form)
Thanks. I’ve tapped another gunmaker who has dealt with this exact issue and am awaiting his response. Apparently he filed a DMCA form to deal with it.
