Incoming ‘Specimens’

Arnold had managed to calm down enough to enjoy curling up under a palm tree while the sun hung far overhead.  It was now the Monday before the beginning of October, and his casts had come off weeks ago.  The Friday immediately after was now just a bitter memory of misunderstandings, shouting, and suspicions which had led him to accusing the doctor of toying with him and running off.

It had not been pretty, but it had been cathartic in the end.  In fact, he thought as he began to stretch his back, he hadn’t felt this relaxed in a long time.

Still there were two things that ruined what could have been a good way to spend his time away from New Babbage.  The newest one came when a tiny man delivered a package to him along with a letter addressed by Canergak.

He wondered how the old man had known where to find them, but upon looking at the contents he realized that it had been sent a month ago to the asylum and had only now reached them.  Opening the letter the cat was displeased to see that the old man was coming back to the city.  He was apparently bringing patients with him, although he repeatedly referred to them as specimens.

Enclosed in the package were the documents about the new arrivals, and as Arnold read the reports he frowned.  Dr. Maddox wouldn’t be pleased, but the cat realized that he was finally getting his original wish.  The asylum would soon be holding several dangerous individuals against their will.
