I love getting news from home… this new airship overseas newspaper delivery service is great.

*leans back, opens paper, relaxes to read……*

*WAILS*  No!  Not EMERSON!  We can’t lose the best writer on the planet!

Um, and the other guy, too!

Perhaps we shall have to send a search party out? I will have to pose this question to the naval militia perhaps…

      Who posted the article Nathaniel?

Anyways, it is a bit outside our territory, and I’m sure someone will be there to help…

[Tune in next week dear reader, for the further adventures of The Two Amigos!]

OMG, you think I actually read WHO posts things? I just read the posts themselves usually XD

With the aetheric portal generator out of action beyond the city limits I sadly cannot do much to help in the search. I will ask Mr Pendle at the Clockhaven Wireless Telegraph Office to keep his ears open for news.

  6. Sky Melnik Sky Melnik October 17, 2011

Sky crumples up the newspaper after reading the “good parts.” Striking a match, she is about to set fire to the paper and throw it on top of logs in the ‘Cuffs fireplace. Sky’s eye gets caught on the names in the corner announcement. She shoves the paper upward, towards the mantle and directly in Scottie’s face with a murmur of “Uhhhh…”

Waiting for Scottie’s reaction, she burns her fingers with the match, “Dagnabbit, it is so a Monday!” Sky grumbles as she re-bandages her hand to cover her new burn.

    • Scottie Melnik Scottie Melnik October 17, 2011

Scottie reads through the article Sky hands him and frowns when he comes to dynamic duo’s possible fate. He holds the paper out to Sky, attempting to hand it back when she burns her fingers. He shakes his head and looks out toward Port as she bandaged herself up, lamenting quietly, “Seeking your fortune is dangerous, but going down in an airship? That’s a damn shame…”

Petharic reads the little article a dozen times over, getting angrier with each pass through. That guy has managed to cheat me again, he thinks, heading over to Ahab’s for a warmed buttermilk and double-shot of honey.

  8. Junie Ginsburg Junie Ginsburg October 17, 2011

After setting the newspaper on her desk in solemn silence, Junie’s eyes next fell on a stack of recipes she had been transcribing for Emerson.  Irritated by her own procrastination, she swept the stack to the floor and stomped downstairs.

October in New Babbage was beginning to make her cranky.

  9. Victor1st Mornington Victor1st Mornington October 17, 2011

Mornington lays back on his sofa reading the papers and comes across the article and almost chokes on his Chivas…

“ohhhh…ohhhhhhhhh dear…its like that trip was cursed from the beginning….”

  10. Glaubrius Valeska Glaubrius Valeska October 17, 2011

Not unlike what happened to Sgt. Underwood. Those aerostats seem to be getting more dangerous! In Underwood’s case, he has been found but not retrieved, hopefully a ship was nearby and the crash was controlled.

  11. Mr. Arnold Mr. Arnold October 17, 2011

Arnold read the newspaper once and then put it up, quite sure he’d read it right the first time.  He’d said they’d die on their trip, he’d expected it from the start, he should have placed money on this fact but he didn’t gamble.  Despite this he had always been a little concerned about Emerson’s well being, and reading about his death in print had not made him happy in the slightest.

However, for some strange reason, he couldn’t really believe they were dead, at least he couldn’t believe that they were dead yet.  Perhaps they had survived the crash, but if they had then they were more than likely in a life boat in the middle of the ocean or a desert island and it wouldn’t be too long before Malus ate Mr. Lighthouse and he died anyways.

While the news of them dying in a crash had not really phased the cat, the thought of the two men dying slowly over the course of a few weeks without food, water, or hope did make Arnold frown in regret and sympathy.

  12. Maddox Sinclaire Maddox Sinclaire October 17, 2011

As Maddox’s eyes scanned the newspaper, her eyebrows rose. Dead? More than likely not. I would bet on missing… She hoped that the two men were at least safe, or as safe as could be mustered wherever they were. She rather hoped that Mr Lighthouse wasn’t acting out of grief taking that other man with him on some wild goose chase…

She folded the paper quickly and sighed. If it were Helio lost, she’d want him found. Then again, she knew that sometimes men had the oddest way of taking care of themselves when it looked the bleakest. Perhaps they have it all under control. No matter. I won’t worry. Yet. Perhaps I should talk to Arnold…

    • Mr. Arnold Mr. Arnold October 17, 2011

Arnold looks at her blankly for a moment and then informs her that someone who is missing at sea can look forward to starvation, dehydration, madness, cannibalism, sunburn, freezing to death, and a hundred other terrible fates and that the man was more likely to be attacked by a shark than to be rescued, (and you had a better chance of winning the lottery than being attacked by a shark.)

“He’d have been more fortunate to die in the crash.”

      • Maddox Sinclaire Maddox Sinclaire October 19, 2011

“Oh Arnold, don’t talk like that. He and his friend should be fine. They always seem to come out all right.”

  13. Cadmus Lupindo Cadmus Lupindo October 17, 2011

    *Throws down the paper, laughing*

“I might win those 300 Quatloos yet.”

    • Petharic Petharic October 17, 2011

*Looks at the crusty looking guy laughing on the barstool beside him at Ahab’s and tips his honeyed buttermilk in a toast.*
