So, Babbage needs some traffic, eh?
Well, I’ve decided to try to do my small part, by opening FREEDONIA, a shop where everything is either a freebie or dollarbie. *BUT* with my personal no-crap guarantee.
I’m not the best PR sort of person, but I’m going to do my best to make sure it turns up in search, and so on. I know there are other places to get freebies in Babbage, but they tend to be the sort you stumble onto while exploring. I’m hoping to make this a place people go to lured by good freebies, and then wander off into Babbage because it’s just so keen.
I’m going to be transferring the entire contents of my store (and a few more things) to Freedonia as freebie/dollarbies. And yes, since people have asked, I will accept other creators freebies/dollarbies too, as long as they pass review. :P
Freedonia is currently located on a barge in Port Babbage. I’m in-process of moving all my vendors over.
Excellent idea!
Nice one, Doc.
Excellent! I shall point all of the newcomers and visitors I find in that general direction!
I make a point to try and help newcomers with the basics, like wearing clothes, rp tips, or just meet and greet. Many folks showed me kindness and continue to do so, which means i try to return the favour and i`m a teacher in real life, so its my thing.
I already try to keep track of local steampunk freebies and starter kits in the town, and have a forum post commending babbage as i think citizens do this very well. I think that this shop is a great idea.
I would however advise that the better items be made “dollarbies”. With things like money trees, easter egg hunts and so on paying one or two lindens fairly easily, i think that it gives a better sense of worth and achievement to pay a single linden and to earn an item in that way.
The good doctor already gives some fine freebies, from furniture to his too-cute blimp. So situating those in one place, ie the store, is a good idea and is simply making them easier to find. Backing this up with dollarbies means that visitors get a lot from the store but wont simply open a trolly and dump it all thoughtlessly in. The principle of earning a single linden is a big thing and its very much achievable.
It would, however, be a wise idea to put up a small notice about ways to get that single dollar. I only found out about money trees through a friend, so a notice telling newbies what they are and to find out more about them will go a long way. NB the bravo bravo money tree directory no longer exists.
i’d rather compete for lindens than wait for it to fall off a tree.
Well, you may be right. Yesterday i was introduced to trivia events where you can indeed compete for lindens and make a fun social event of it too.
So, perhaps a poster could be put up mentioning the trivia group, which would be a good thing for newbies to join, socially and financially.
I have since decided that i hate money trees and that they suck the life out of you.
They speak rather fondly of you.
*Claps hands and dances around in delight* Dat such a good idea!
*holds out hands* Give me a s SLURL and I’ll share it in Plurk.

Although, I’m still moving stuff over from my store, and haven’t put it in search, yet. But they can come back again later. :P
Hmmmm getting that barge in search might be a problem Doc if its sitting on the main parcel for port, you’ll need to parcello it off into onto its own plot.
he has a 4×4 landing square, just like mr. sands does for his barge.
Speaking of, would it be possible to have that done for my barge?
Barge looks top!
