Oh, dear.  He doesn’t look good.

    ((Safe travels, sir!))

  2. Mr Underby Mr Underby July 6, 2011

With a rattle, Underby exited the elevator and stepped into the office.  He heard the snoring immediately, and looked over to where the clockwinder slept in the hammock.

“Tenk…” he said, softly.  The small figure did not budge, but kept on snoring.

“Tenk?” he said again, louder this time.  Nothing.

Underby smiled, and sat down at the desk.  “Now,” he said. “let’s get to work.”

  3. Byron Wexhome Byron Wexhome July 6, 2011

“No..no, my good man. I’m not partial to the ‘Snitch’. The ‘Herald’; yes that one, please.”

The newsman nodded as Byron leaned in gesturing with his cane to the paper at the back of the stand.

    …tick-tock…

Something bristled deep within Byron. Instinctively his gloved hands flexed, dropping both cane and paper. His eyes unseeing of the world around him.

“Mooar t’ pity, gov’.” The newsman watched as the paper blew away with the wind, depositing bits of itself into the muck covered streets. Thinking his patron hadn’t heard, he leaned in and placed a trembling hand on Byron’s shoulder, ” ‘ood theur li’ anotha, Mr. Wexhome?”

Byron’s face turned to the newsman, but his eyes traveled beyond the stand and into the relative distance. A curious smile pulled at his cruel lips.

    “He’s opened…”

    “Wha’ theur on-a-baar, Mr. Wexhome?”

There was the flicker of something deep within Byron’s eyes, “My move.”

  4. Mr Tenk Mr Tenk July 6, 2011

Tenk stirred suddenly as Underby rose from his day’s work. His hand shot out and grabbed the bony arm as he came close to the hammock. He looked up with the trust of one that shares a common enemy with the other and said:

    “Loosestrife… don’t let him win….”
