Events and Dates

It seems that the latest Drupal update did away with our customized Event Date data in favor of some new built-in functionality.

I had to disable the Event content type and create a new Event Listing type, to use the new Date content type.  It’s all very weird.

Anyway, I got the view that shows the upcoming events to display the new type, however I can’t get it to go by date yet.  So right now it lists all events.  Also it displays Dec 31 instead of the actual event date.

I may need some of Mr. Cleanslate’s magic!

Spread the love

I think what we need is an upgrade from 6.19 to 6.20, but Cleanslate should back everything up first…

Ah, that answers a question that was on my lips for some time, what CMS was running the Reader. Drupal can be a finicky mistress at times. I have always had better luck beating WordPress into submission.

Why are you using the built-in events system when you have the Google Calendar? Perhaps just finding a reasonable plugin/extension to display events fron the GCal will prevent further breakage.

Mr. Harvey, if you or AE need another pair of hands and eyes, I am willing to serve the community in any capacity, web wise. I have time to kill.

I’ve suggested before just using the Google Calendar. There are Drupal modules to display them in a friendly way and so on. Right now only select people can create events on the Google Calendar.

It would be nice to have one calendar. I think people did like the ability to add images and comment to events, as well as RSVP. Can we do all that with Google Calendar?

December 31? Damnation! We should party like it’s 1888!

I messed with dates and times today, but am mortally confused. The new start_date format is COMPLETELY f*cked up, showing 24 hour clocks and recalculating time zone differences and god knows what else. Right now every event has its start/end date stored twice, but only one works.

Blackberry – did you add a new module or content type at some point in this past week? Where did it come from?

Okay I got the dates to parse properly in the view, but we’re still storing two different dates for each event, and when saved both field_startdate and field_enddate are being incremented by 5 hours, no matter what I enter.

So at this point I have the dates displaying properly in the view. The form automatically adds 7 hours to any date entered as a Start Date (seven? really? come on). So as long as you enter your event’s dates in 24-hour-clock format, and subtract seven hours, you should be fine. Oh, and just ignore the *second* start/end date form fields. Those aren’t the fields you’re looking for.

I’ll keep working over the weekend.

I think events are working now.

You must set BOTH dates, the one at the top and the one at the bottom.  At least until we get things more figured out.  The date at the bottom of the form will be the one displayed on the event listing.

Since this is on topic I’ll use this thread.  The 1pm/8pm Town Hall meeting this Saturday is when for which time zone? From there I can interpret to my own.

    Thanks!

Please for now put times in the NAME of the event, as well as in the BODY of the event, until we figure out why times aren’t working.  Ignore all other times when looking at an event.
