Decoding Events

*Tries to ignore the funny captcha error codes, but the word “code” is hardcoded into this thought process*

When I look at calendar listings, it isn’t always clear what they are.

For example in my first week here, there were posters about time travel. In fact one of them is still plastered just outside my shop.  I thought it was some sort of discussion or lecture.  It turned out to be dancing.

I’m not even sure when I see “Ball” whether it’s a formal event for couples and someone announces the avatars at the door etc…

Spread the love

Well, to cover the more-or-less regular monthly events:

Breakfast/Bedlam in Babbage: monthly dance hosted by Edward Pearse at the Clarendon.  Modern, sometimes obscure, music based on a theme.  Dress code: not much.  Casual Steampunkish, or costume tied to the theme.

Aether Salon: monthly lecture series on steam and Victorian topics.  Dress code: reasonably well-dressed Victorian/Steampunk.  See http://aethersalon.blogspot.com/ for more information, including transcripts from past Salons.

Piermont Landing balls: Monthly ball hosted by Miss Breezy Carver at Piermont Landing (in Wheatstone Waterway).  Each month has a theme, with a related build contest.  Dress code: fairly formal Victorian/Steampunk, and/or related to theme.  Conduct at the ball, however, is not that formal–no announcements, dance cards, etc.  Miss Breezy strives to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. *smile*
