December 13 – Who Would Have Thought It?

It’s still hard to believe, really. But it happened. I witnessed a miracle. A genuine, Christmas miracle–though, of course, this being New Babbage, it had its own New Babbage-y twist.  I could write about it, but why bother? If a picture speaks a thousand words, this will say more than I could ever write.

The result, of course, is that our coal crisis is over. What we’ve received should, at the very least, keep the city going until our usual sources can supply us again. It’s such a relief to hear industry going again… and simply to have a warm bedroom!

Everyone in New Babbage is very relieved at having received this coal. Well, almost everyone. Mariah heard rumors of some speculation by Mr. Underby which, in the event, became rather unwise. I can’t say that I feel particularly sorry about that.

At least with this crisis resolved, we can concentrate on preparing for the seasonal festivities. I must make sure I have enough photographic plates!

I gave my coal to those bothersome coal men, now they are happy and will stop breaking things at the power station! Yay!
