Clockwork Workers go on Strike!

The clockwork workers who maintain the Clockhaven Power Station have gone on strike!

Fortunately the automated safety system designed by Avariel Falcon engaged and shut down the power generators without blowing up the city, but all power generation has ceased.

Hopefully this will be settled soon, the clockwork are just sitting around drinking oil and swearing in machine language while I sit in the locked basement working on the ultimate theory of everything!

*watches maintenance clockwork #42 very carefully as he lays on the ground in a pool of filthy oil while running drunk clockwork program #2711 and generating snoring noises*

    *makes some notes*

*goes back into the basement and locks the door*

:sits at his desk writing something as the lights go out. The sound of a quill scribbling seems to continue uninterrupted in the dark before he finally finished and lifted his head: Did it get two and three tenths a degree colder in here?

I knew this electricity nonsense would blow over. What a fad. (basks in the glow of coal-gas lamps.) The clanks will come to their senses soon enough, if it’s in their punch cards to come to their senses, anyway.

*Sitting at home listening to the aether-player as the power flickers. Looks around momentarily as the home-installed Tesla Generators kick in to resume power. Picks up the latest issue of the PrimGraph.*

Avariel Falcon wandered around the silent power station. It was apparent that the striking clockwork workers had forgotten something important, something so simple that it was amazing that no one had brought it to mind.

Without the clockwork the power station could not run, but without power from the generators the clockwork could not run. So one by one the clockwork workers wound down and fell silent, laying motionless on the floor of the darkened power station.

Avariel Falcon kicked one of the clockwork workers. “Well! That will teach you to ignore me! What a wonderful idea! Go on strike and turn yourselves into scrap!”.

Avariel Falcon pondered the pile of clockwork workers she had dragged into the basement wondering how she was going to rewind them all. “Maybe I will take a short break… yes… I’m feeling rather tired for some reason…”.
