Book Recommendation (totally OOC)

Hello my pretties! I’ve been doing mad amounts of research lately for my thesis and came across a marvelous book I thought fellow Victoriannes might find helpful.

How to be a Victorian, by Ruth Goodman, is FANTASTIC. She works through an entire day in the life of a victorian man and woman, starting with getting out of bed and ending with getting into it. It’s been a fascinating read and so far I’ve learned answers to questions I never thought to ask like, for instance, how did Victorian woman wash their hair? How often did Victorians bathe? Was tightlacing really as common as we tend to believe? How did working class people who couldn’t afford a clock or watch get out of bed on time in the mornings?

Okay, back to work for me. Enjoy!

Spread the love

I was going to make an observation about my assistant being knocked up, then thought it might seem indelicate.
