So, a while ago Edward and I started a bicycle project. I say ‘we’, I said what I wanted and he is doing all the actual labour…
It’s a Raleigh Caprice Ladies Bicycle, one of the old models. It’s in the process of being stripped and re-painted (racing red!), and it’s going to have a bell and a wicker basket and whitewall tyres and lots of pretty things like that! It’s also going to have my name stencilled onto the side in white.
I was trying to think of accessories (Steampunk, Victorian, Dieselpunk or otherwise) that I could add to the bike, but I keep drawing blanks…
Any ideas, smart people? How can I make this bike even more ace?
a gattling gun mounted on the handlebars?
This one is modernized but I like the location of the basket.
Undoubtedly more than you have in mind to do. :) But the frame is very stylish.
What about a small marine compass mounted on the handlebar?
It sounds like a great project.
How about a horn that plays “Rue Britania”?
*laughs at the idea of “Rue” Britania*
Instead of spokes, how about a gear encased within a rubber tire?
RUE Britannia?! *faints*
I love the compass idea, actually Kimika, that would look cute!
Grendel, gatling gun is a tad much… I already have a nice holster fixed on for my hunting rifle ;)
And I love the idea of the gear wheels… But I already bought the wheels… Also, that sounds rather tricky!
You could motorize it with a kit like this:

More dieselpunk (I’ll never understand that term) than steampunk, but you could make an early step-through frame bike look like a Great War era early motorcycle. You’d probably want to upgrade the brakes. For making the bike look quiet a bit older and cooler, you could check out the rat-bikes section of killbillet.com
I hope you enjoy the Raleigh
