    21st century books sitting on 21st century shelves seem so embarrassingly ugly by comparison.

    No need to say ‘seem’ at all, they just are.  I am going to support modern hardcover books, though, when done properly — acid free/archival quality paper and 1-3 ribbon bookmarks (oh, we’ll use them), and slightly larger than standard print; just just a book, but a …..BOOK.  re: the above picture — omg! :D

    NB: the canon of Sherlock Holmes stories ought ONLY be read in hard cover, imo.
