I sorta like it. I will have to come take a closer look… or … not? It’s not there anymore?

I just found an empty plot derezzed the tree’s and cart on it to see what it looked like. It’s alot like something I tried to make a couple of years ago but 1000% better looking and all mesh. Mine had similar shaped roof but I wanted pipes on it, machinery bits and bobs. I couldn’t get the shapes right in prims. Only problem with this is it’s all compound curved meshes so getting prims to hug the roof to steampunk it up a bit is tricky.

I’ve tinted almost every part of it to either tone it down or recolour it. I’ve tried lots of textures on the roof, the dark one works but I tried a lighter copper green panel roof that was nice but maybe too light. if I could find a nice metal riveted texture that would make the roof look industrial then I think the curves will look less thatched and more machine.

The look I’m trying for is curvy riveted metal house …. that a mad inventor made, but with brick walls maybe. Although I’m thinking that the outside walls are such a small part of it I might just texture the whole outside in metal …. and add extra struts and girders. also I may try covering the roof partially in a tube shape to contrast with the peek roof on one end. But I’ll loose some dormer windows grr……… it’s madly hard, prims won’t bend enough !

This is my first roof retexture …..

Actually .. looking at this again I kind of prefer this to my current roof. I think if I do the walls in metal I could have panels peeling off in places, maybe the same on the roof, to make it look more metally. Problem is with mesh they use one big texture for multiple parts, so the roof can share textures with window frames or part of a floor for example. Plus its covered in invisible collision prims.

the upside is that it reduces texture loads on the servers.

I could see it fitting decent on the hill in the Gut somewhere, but that’s all taken up, isn’t it?

Or outside the wall near the watermill perhaps.

I really love this, its so easy to get caught up making historical looking builds and forget to include some steampunk fantasy now and then. This does that perfectly :)

The floral window boxes are risky though, I can see the mayor bricking your windows for that.

I’m thinking now it will be impossible, it’s not gonna work here. I’ll have to file it in my ‘why the hell did I buy that’ folder for a rainy day! along with some really strange purchases here, I still havn’t used the assalt rifle I got 2 years ago, it was an essentual purchase at the time of course.

If it was made of smaller parts I could rip it appart and modify it more, but I can’t the house is made so all the windows are one mesh, the roof and some walls another.

I’m thinking “location, location, location” is a euphemism for the sea floor of the vernian sea !, back to the drawing board…. although maybe do it in wood and combine it with some kind of boat hull, so it looks like boat/house hybrid …. maybe, it’s kinda curvy enough.

I wouldn’t give up just yet. It has so much charm. The ornate treatments on the eaves and the widow’s walk braces are perfect. If there were a way to turn the flowers into herbs or something, I think the first photo has the texture sheme sorted very well. I’m a sucker for porthole windows, too ;) And the stone porch is just right. The curves make it; the combination of simple organic cottage and eccentric defiance. I feel it has a place here somewhere. And I’m choked I didn’t get a picture of it ;)

Maybe up near the wall in Academy? There’s a few vacant places up there that have odd shape plots.

Maybe location location is the key rather than a huge alteration to what I’ve done so-far ?

I’m still not quite sure lol. I made a wooden one on a boat too …. it looks quite nice with a garden on thr hull , sort of armardaesque.

Rutherford square or the jitters do seem to be the best options. too well kept for coronet/gut.
