An Innocent Man in New Babbage

Wiggy closed the door behind him and stomped both feet to knock the snow off his work boots.  The repair shop was only marginally warmer than outside. He opened the cast iron door of the small corner stove and tossed in two lumps of coal, then pulled a chair up close to the stove and sat down.  Carefully, he pulled the letter out of his vest pocket and began to
read:

 Dearest uncle,

As of Monday past, I have completed my studies in accounting. My marks were quite acceptable, and I am now eager to find employment and begin to support myself. It is with great pleasure that I inform you I will soon be arriving in the city of New Babbage in order to search for my first real situation!

I have a few coins set aside to assist in my search for suitable starting position. I shall be arriving by ship within the next few weeks.   I will send my itinerary information to you later once it has been finalized.

 I have a few questions for you;

  • Will you recommend a few places where I can inquire about employment?
  • I recall your fanciful tales of villains and thieves.  Should I bring a firearm?
  • Do you know where I can lease an inexpensive room?  Nothing extravagant please.
  • Do you have any other advice for a newcomer to Babbage?

Many thanks in advance for your kind advice. I have heard so many extraordinary stories about Babbage from you over the years, and I am excited to finally have the opportunity to see this marvelous city!

 Your loving nephew,

 Wilfred Cogsworth

Wiggy cursed and slapped his hand against his forehead and exclaimed:

“That lad does not know what he is getting himself into!”

Wilfred was a pleasant young man, wide-eyed and full of energy.  No doubt he would also make a fine employee.  What concerned Wiggy was that Wilfred was not only an innocent and inexperienced young man, but that he was also very trusting and easily mislead. Grumbling, Wiggy folded the letter and shoved it into his vest pocket. He rose from the chair.

“Might as well start making inquires to find the lad a room in a safe neighborhood. The last thing I need is for him to find lodgings in the gut!”

[OOC]

Wilfred is a character that is solely for the purpose of Roleplay.  He will soon be looking for work in the streets of New Babbage, and no doubt he will also get into a few misadventures while here.  Anyone who can offer him ‘employment’, or a room to let, please contact me.

    – Or Babbage Square, or even Clockhaven these days.

Send him by the Gangplank some night. We seem to be overflowing with employees we can’t afford… but there may be the occasional odd job or two if he is willing to work for pie.
