I believe he was mentioned during the discussion. That fellow seems to have been handing out unofficial titles to the urchins as well. To be honest, I doubt he is really an emperor.

My respect for the Emperor is evident in the way I treat him.

ah but remember Mr Jekyll that the best or greatest Emperors, all came from rather less than noble beginnings, take Augustus, Napoleon, or even our contemporary Bismark, although he will argue that he is only Chancellor.
agreat Emperor is made not born!

I never said Emperor Crumb was not born an emperor. I just don’t think he truly rules over anything. Not that I would wish for him to be instutionalized, for he might have good intentions, but I personally take his claims with a grain of salt.
And by-the-by, that’s Doctor Jekyll. I have a medical degree to prove it.

first off Doctor Jekyll, i will apologize for my error in not stating your title in my comments,
as i have never formally met you and your only correspondence of which i am familiar is simply signed H Jekyll, i therefore had no knowledge of your degree.
and second i never stated that Emperor Crumb was the ruler of New babbage, but wondered why his title, which i consider honorary, was not included among all the other persons of honorary rank named in the aether salon transcripts

Oh well, that un’s easy! The list them ladies gave us were fer the British toffs. Now, the top bod in Britain is the King, or if she’s a lady, the Queen… errrr…. an some of the Kings were Queens too, but they don’t address em that way, not if yer wanted ter keep yer head…..
Well, the Kings an Queens of Britain have also sometimes been Emperors, but of other places, an as other places ranks ain’t considered as high as native ranks, it don’t get included…
Hope that clears that up. Oh, The Emperor is our Emperor, he just has a very light touch, an has the Clockwinder ter run things for him, cus the Clockwinder sees EVERYTHING and knows about stuff yer only thought about deep in the sewers on a Sunday at midnight!
Tepic shivers at the thought of being in Mr Tenk’s bad books……
