I’m going to be very blunt.

Being new to New Babbage and only having been to New Caledon a couple of times for NCI classes and one ride on the train, I saw that existing poster for the first time in the pitch for a new one and thought it was breathtaking.

I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone thinks it should be retired.  For every noob that poster is a new poster, and so aptly represents New Babbage.

As much as I really like the people here, I have to be objective for the image of the city and express that there isn’t a single submission which comes close to the existing poster.  I wouldn’t submit anything myself because I knew I couldn’t do it justice.

I really really REALLY wish you didn’t break what didn’t need fixing. Unless the original creator has some beef and you’re required to retire it, please don’t.

    Thank you.

I can very easily see your perspective of each new arrival is only seeing it for the first time anyway. But the point isn’t so much that, I think, as participation of the citizens. Giving us a chance to give the newer people and older ones too, if they so choose, the opportunity to show everyone what Babbage means and is to us. It’s not that the old poster is outdated or isn’t good. I do love it very much.  But there’s the opportunity here for someone else to step up and show the world the eyes through which they view New Babbage.

lol And as Mr. Arkright said, there’s a few who work at the welcome center there who have to stare at it all the time.

There’s certainly no harm in changing it out from time to time. I would have submitted an entry myself, but I don’t do too good at compilations. I’m more of a DIYer, Draw It Yourself, and I know my work isn’t suited for that kind of media. XD I totally sucked at advertising design in college.

I’m very sorry and disappointed you feel this way, Mr Henly.

For my part, I was thrilled to participate in the competition, and found the other entries engaging and inspiring.

Mr Questi was very generous to organise this for the greater good of New Babbage. I can only wish not everyone shares your same blunt and objective view. I’d like to think it is good to include variety and community participation for an image that represents our town.

    Regards,

    SK

Wait a minute… you mean I *didn’t* succeed? My design failed to captivate and enthrall?!? My revolutionary artistic vision was rejected?!?!

PHILISTINES!!! SMALL MINDED COWARDS!!! HOW DARE YOU DENY MY CREATIVE BRILLIANCE!! REAP MY WRATH, BABBAGE!!! REAP MY WRAAAAAAAAAAATH!!!!!

Okay, seriously… I think the current sign is great (it’s the one I clicked on when I made my first trip to Babbage) and I know some people have a pronounced aversion to anything that smacks of marketing, but I don’t think it hurts to give explorers some idea of what kind of place Babbage is as opposed to just learning that it’s there and giving them a landmark. And I happen to think “Find Your Muse” is a very appropriate message (well done, Mr. Kondor).

Besides, think of Mr. Questi who has to stare at the thing all the time. Don’t you think he’d like a fresh poster to look at?

Everyone’s a bloody critic. Hmph! Harrumph!

The voters have spoken!  Mr. Kondor is the clear winner by a wide margin. My thanks to all who entered; all the entries were excellent, in my opinion.

As I explained in the contest announcement, I was the creator of the original poster. I’m glad you liked it, Mr. Henley, but it has been up in Oxbridge for two years. It may come back at some point, but I am looking forward to admiring Mr. Kondor’s excellent poster for the foreseeable future.

Certainly a contest for something else could have begged for a change and beckoned the clever artisans of this fine city to a more needy cause…

But Mister Questi, your vision is what New Babbage means to me. There are no avatars in your poster, which allows people like myself to imagine ourselves as ourselves here without limits. The lettering perfectly complements the color scheme of the landscape and stands out clearly without upstaging or getting lost in it.  You sir are a master of design and aesthetics.  Your poster’s removal is a loss to the community in ways they may never realize.  I am a trained artist and see myself as quite skilled, but you are way above me. I bow to your brilliance.

Good heavens, Mr. Henley, you have made me blush. No one who knows me would ever call me an artist–a photographer perhaps; I did take the picture. But it would be cowardly of me not to confess that I had expert advice on the typographical colors from that paragon of artists, Miss Martini Discovolante. If the poster has any merit at all, the accolades accrue to her.

In any event, the proof of the posters will be in click counts. I hope the newcomers in Oxbridge will find Mr. Kondor’s poster more eye catching than the old one.

Oh now I recall. You both I’ve seen in a presentation together. I have seen Miss Discovolante on one of her bunnier days.  Well maybe it took two brains to temper the tone :)

And yes, wtg to the winner!
